Ryan Whitehurst

Software Development Intern

Ryan Whitehurst is an 18 year old senior at Central Catholic High School. He discovered his love for computers at a very young age and his love of free software when he realized why we write software: to help ourselves and others. Thus when he found an opportunity for internship at OpenSourcery, he gladly took it.

Ryan believes that by allowing software to be free, we allow it to live and grow, much like a language. Free software allows us to share our ideas and benefit in many ways from others, as well as allowing others to benefit from us.

Ryan believes that the flying disc is one of the greatest inventions ever, alongside Perl and lasagne. He enjoys studying human language in addition to coding and thinks most writing systems are flawed. He also thinks keyboards emulating typewriter deficiencies are as silly as new document formats emulating bugs from older formats.

Ryan is the oldest child, with a brother, two sisters, a stepbrother, and a stepsister. He has lived in
Portland all his life and loves the city. His plans for now and the future include learning as much as possible and avoiding dying for as long as he can, and he has been fairly successful at both so far.
