Sustainability

Open Source and Sustainability are natural partners. Both share a philosophy of contribution to the greater good and a focus on improvement. And both are the 'right thing' to do.

We're committed to responsible, earth-friendly business practices. Here's a few examples:

100% Green Energy

All of us use PGE's Green Source energy program, which dedicates 50% of its supply mix to new wind power installations. Our founder's vehicles are powered by biodiesel, an earth-friendly fuel. Many of our other team members bike or take Metro to the office, we encourage work from home, and many of us drive biodiesel-powered cars. Finally, we purchase green tags to offset any greenhouse gases we emit from power whose source we cannot control–our webserver for example.

Low impact practices

We make the most of paperless technology. For example, we employ a state-of-the-art web-based information system. We use recycled paper, non-toxic inks and use duplex (double-sided) printing by default.

Green offices

Our earth-friendly offices feature extensive use of reclaimed materials, recycled cotton insulation, earthen plasters and zero VOC paint for the interior and recycled paint on the exterior. Our heat is provided by a mix of biodiesel and recycled vegetable oil.

Local investments

We invest in the local economy, because every dollar kept in the neighborhood will improve the quality of life for everyone in the community.
